Bus Rental Safety Guide for School Trips
School trips are among the most important and memorable moments of students' educational lives. However, the safety of these trips is equally critical. The biggest concern of parents is whether their children are transported safely on school trips. As ERYA TURİZM, we have served hundreds of school trip events for years and share our safety standards in this guide.
Vehicle Safety Checklist
Buses used on school trips must have stricter safety criteria than standard passenger buses. Here are the standards ERYA TURİZM enforces on its school trip buses:
1. Seatbelts: A working seatbelt in every seat. Student seatbelt use is supervised by the lead teacher and driver.
2. Fire Safety: Fire extinguisher (with expiry date checked), emergency hammer (next to every window), illuminated emergency exit signs.
3. First Aid: An up-to-date and complete first-aid kit. Our driver has completed basic first-aid training.
4. Vehicle Age and Maintenance: Buses under 10 years old with periodic maintenance are used on school trips. All buses in the ERYA TURİZM fleet meet this criterion.
5. GPS and Communication: A GPS tracking system on the vehicle, a school-parent communication line (driver mobile phone and backup), and an emergency button.
Driver and Guide Requirements
On school trips, driver selection is made more meticulously than on a normal journey. ERYA TURİZM looks for the following criteria in its school trip drivers:
Experience: At least 5 years of professional driving, preferably school transport experience. Criminal Record: A clean criminal record certificate. Health: A detailed health report (including psychotechnical evaluation). Training: Training in communication with children and knowledge of emergency procedures.
In addition to a lead teacher on every school trip, there is also an auxiliary staff member (host/hostess) assigned by ERYA TURİZM. This staff coordinates student discipline, headcount, and organization on the bus.
Student Count and Vehicle Capacity
On school trips, it is recommended to leave a safety margin rather than filling the entire vehicle capacity. As ERYA TURİZM, we use 90% of bus capacity on school trips. For example, a 50-seat coach carries a maximum of 40 students + 5 adults (teachers and guides).
The number of lead teachers is also critical. As a general rule, 1 adult per 10 students should be assigned. This ratio drops to 8:1 for kindergarten and primary school groups. ERYA TURİZM plans optimal group size together with school authorities.
Parent Communication and Emergency Procedures
Before the trip, detailed information is provided to all parents: route, stop points, contact numbers, and estimated arrival times. ERYA TURİZM can provide real-time location sharing on school trips — parents can track where their children's bus is at any moment.
Emergency procedures are determined in advance: nearest hospital, emergency contact line, and backup bus plan. In the last 10 years, no serious safety incident has occurred on any school trip organized by ERYA TURİZM.
